Sivas is located in the eastern part of Turkey and it is very famous with its’ Turkish architectural buildings. The city has a long history over 4000 years and hosted a lot of civilizations such as The Hittites, Phrygians, Romans and Ottomans. Sivas was one of the first Turkish cities in Anatolia and had a lot of different Turkish city-states. These states has built amazing architectural buildings in the city that finally Great Mosque of Divrigi and Hospital has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.
In the city center, there are two very interesting buildings: Gok Medrese and Cifte Minareli Medrese. Medrese is the name given to the Theological Universities where you learn the subject that you are into and the religion together.

Gok Medrese was built by Seljuks in 1271. The most interesting part in this building is the portal gate, which is in huge dimensions with a lot of very intricate reliefs. The portal gates were always very important for the Turkish Empires because it shows the power of the country. The gate also has two minarets that have some blue tiles from where the name of the medrese comes from. Gok means “sky” in Turkish.
Cifte Minareli Medrese is the other interesting building in Sivas City. The medrese has also a very nice portal gate and two minarets. Ilhanids built the medrese in 13th century.
The most interesting place in Sivas district is about 2 hours far from the center: Great Mosque of Divrigi and Hospital. The mosque has been built by Menguceks who are one of the Turkish tribes between 1228 and 1243. This is one of the best-ornamented mosques in the world and it has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. The portal gates of both the mosque and the hospital have the most advanced and intricate reliefs in Turkey and in perfect shape. The gates have a lot of floral designs and calligraphic writings.
